High hopes at Flamingo Park

Muzi Yeni: It’s time to start all over again with some decent rides at Flamingo Park.

We’ve just come to the end of a long season but to all my supporters I can assure them I am up and running and keen to continue where I left off.

I feel I’ve learned a lot from the last season and I believe I also have received the support of many more trainers and that should help me this season.

So far it has been a slow start but we are at Flamingo Park today and that has been one of my favourite courses. The only concern is that we have a lot of first-timers racing in Kimberley today and we cannot be sure how they will take to the track. We have a Pick 6 carryover of R500,000 so hopefully we can catch the Pick 6 which is expected to reach around R2 million.

Race 1 is a Workrider’s Maiden Plate over 1000m and I’ve gone for an experienced workrider so Master Of The Sea gets the nod. His last form line was boosted when both runner-up Aristachus and third-placed finisher Movie Magic went on to win. I rode a green Fast Draw who finished strongly on his debut over the course and distance, although in a weak field, but he should make further improvement. Truth Or Dare, Candolim and first-timer Love Awaits You look best of the rest.

Race 2 is a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over and Code Black had her best run over this course and distance and is well drawn. My ride, Seraphic, is consistent but costly to follow but must be included along with Profligate and visitor Black Tie.

Have an each-way bet on Code Black!

Race 3 is a MR 56 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1300m and my ride, My Elusive, had a satisfactory first outing in this province in stronger company and she is drawn best. You can probably banker her in the Place Accumulator.

So Good was an unlucky loser of her last start and won’t be hampered by the wide draw as she is comfortable racing from off the pace. Olivia S and Girl In Gold have decent credentials while the ‘lurker’ could be Bridal Veil who will prefer today’s trip after her decent last sprint.

Race 4 is a MR 72 Handicap over 1300m and Takatul had a creditable last performance in stronger company on unfavourable weight terms and represents good each-way value. Now And Forever brings solid Gauteng form into this event and he did shed his maiden tag in his only racecourse appearance. My ride, Winter Twilight, is bidding for a hat-trick after his back-to-back Greyville Polytrack triumphs and deserves respect on his local debut. Prince Josh is a game frontrunner with decent local stats. Have an each-way bet on Takatul!

Go with Takatul, Now And Forever and Winter Twilight in the PA and add Prince Josh into Pick 6.

Race 5 is a MR 79 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1400m where I ride All Of Me. She often gives of her best and thrives on this surface. She is back facing her own sex and merits respect, despite top weight. That said, stable companion Andalusian is back from her Cape escapade and has showed an affinity for this track. Kick Butt has obvious claims on form while Snow Path can get much closer, courtesy of a better draw. Northern Storm is still held by Snow Path on their recent course and distance clash in June but she can still run into the money.

One could take those three boxed in Swingers and put all three into the PA and Pick 6.

Race 6 is the Diamond Stayers over 2200m and it appears a match race between the consistent PE visitor Frikkie and the well-handicapped Paddington. I have a slight preference for the latter who was pipped on local debut by Warrior’s Stone in the Northern Cape Stayers over this trip in early April. My ride, Jolly Josephine, is an extremely capable filly but will have her work cut out against the boys. But she has a handy galloping mass of 52kg and should love this marathon journey. She is a worthy inclusion.

Go with Frikkie and Paddington for the PA but add Warrior’s Stone, Town Flyer and Jolly Josephine into your Pick 6.

In Race 7, the Flamingo Mile over 1600m, Icarus Flight is only 1kg better off with Seattle Skyline for a 2.50-length beating but I feel Ryan Munger knows the former better and can turn the formline around even from his slightly awkward barrier position.

PE visitor Sao Paulo had an encouraging sprint on local debut two months ago and she has kept her form really well back home. In fact, she had a solid start in the ‘windy city’ a mere five days ago. Phil’s Power seems to reserve his best performances for Calvin Habib and can reduce the recent arrears with Icarus Flight and Seattle Skyline, despite facing them on unfavourable weight terms. My ride, Brookie, was rightly rested after his below-par last run and he races fresh so should cope with this trip. He has a bit to find on form and is drawn wide but should be ending his race well.

Go with Icarus Flight and Seattle Skyline for the PA but add Phil’s Power, Brookie and Sao Paulo into the Pick 6.

Race 8 is the WSB Sprint over 1000m and the Tobie Spies yard holds a strong hand in this feature event but Singfonico meets stablemate Basilius, who is my ride, on 8.5kg better terms for a 1.45-length defeat on Greyville’s Polytrack last month. Locally trained Our Moon Shadow should provide stiff competition for the pair and gets the verdict while the other visitor, Sugoi, is also handily weighted.

Go for the first three in the PA and add Sugoi into the Pick 6.

Race 9 is a MR 58 Handicap over 1400m where Herodus is the form entrant. He will be sharper with blinkers over this shorter trip but I’ve got to know my ride, Windcheater, well recently and we could be a serious challenger to the likely favourite.

Put both into the PA and add Private Ruler into the Pick 6.
