KILINDINI WINS GUINEAS
Ken Nicol: Kilindini always looked to have top class potential, and put it all together in grand style with a comfortable win in the Grade 1 Cape Guineas at Kenilworth.
The Silvano colt was many people’s fancy for this race after two impressive wins, but was given little attention in the build up after a slightly flat final prep run.
Rank outsider Viking Moon set the pace, followed by Kilindini and Putontheredlight, with Viva Rio and Macthief also handy.
In enterprising fashion Corne Orffer wasted no time when they turned for home, and Kilindini shot clear a full 500m out.
Viva Rio and Macthief chased gamely, but never looked like reeling in the winner, and he still had a length and three quarters to spare when the line came.
Wild Coast was the only one to make an impression from off the pace, running on into fourth.
Eventual favourite Eden Roc was the first of the Gauteng challengers to finish, but was beaten with every chance.
Of the other fancied runners Silver Operator, King Of Gems, and Sachdev never got into the hunt.
“He’s progressive, and will only get better. I can’t thank Tony Millard enough” said winning trainer Brett Crawford afterwards.
