Beuzelin to fire at Kranji

Beuzelin to fire at Kranji

Larry Foley: The Hakim wagon slowed down a tad last weekend, but a double had him sharing the day’s honours with Harry Kasim.

But 10 good rides on Saturday suggest the red-hot apprentice jockey can add to his growing 2021 total and it may be a case of ‘only’ two or even three winners being a below-par day.

However, competition is fierce and some of the more senior jockeys will be looking at stamping their authority on the season and none more so than Louis-Philippe Beuzelin who some had pencilled in for 2021 Champion Jockey.

The Frenchman has seven rides on Saturday – most with winning chances on paper – and his head-to-head battle with Hakim could make for a good sideshow to the days racing.

In Races 2, 3, and 4 Hakim looks to have the upper hand with ELLIOT NESS, CHOCANTE and OUR SECRET WEAPON all serious winning hopes, but Beuzelin will keep him honest and can make up any ground lost with HIGH LIMIT (Race 7) and perhaps TANGIBLE in the last.

But again, Hakim looks to have the better rides late in the day with LADY FAST (Race 8) and SUPER INVINCIBLE (Race 9) but FORT MUSTANG (Race 8) and CELAVI (Race 9) will again keep the ‘Kelantan Kid’ on his toes.

Good jockeys make for good racing and these two in-form riders will do just that.

Race 9: Super Invincible

Race 10: Sure Will Do

Race 5: Barbeque

Race 7: Field (1 to 14)

Race 8: 1, 8

Race 9: 2, 4

Race 10: 5

Race 1

The usual Class 5 raffle to open the 10-race card and with some Class droppers involved, the tote may be a good guide. BIONICS is the most notable runner that improves dropping to Class 5 and while drawn wide, he has shown enough of late to think he could play a part in this finish. LAI MAK MAK and SUN SPEAR both showed last start dropping to Class 5 that they win sooner than later and while SUN SPEAR gets Hakim and won this trip and track five starts back, LAI MAK MAK had some in hand last start and gate 2 with headgear added helps. LIM’S UNIQUE is also a serious winning hope on what he showed last start – albeit over 1400m on the turf – and KING ZOUSTAR may just beat them all given he is due on the Poly and gets John Powell from gate 3. Betting Strategy – LAI MAK MAK each-way.

1 BEAUTY DIVA ** Form hopeless but drops to Class 5 for the first time so should improve. 12

2 BIONICS *** Draw a concern but form in Class 4 better than it reads and goes close in this Company. 12

3 DRAGON RYKER * Maiden who may appreciate Class 5 but looks a battler at best. 33

4 KING ZOUSTAR *** Only battled on the turf last start but was due prior on the Poly and can win. 3.00

5 LAI MAK MAK *** Looked to have some in hand last start and gets blinkers/pacifiers added. Value. 20

6 SUN SPEAR *** Back in trip and drawn wide but last win was in similar race to this. Can win with Hakim a factor. 3.00

7 LIM’S UNIQUE *** In form, only win was this trip and track and in this a very long way. 4.00

8 DONLIKEYOU * We donlikeyou either. 50

9 FABULOUS ONE * Improved effort late last start and 1200m suits. 50

10 JOJU * Maiden who is impossible on form but gets blinkers added at first start in Class 5. 50

11 ST ALWYN ** Only battling this campaign but may appreciate being back on the Poly. 33

12 DIAMOND MINE ** Nothing last start but form prior good enough to include in exotics. 20

13 FIDDLESTICK ** Nothing last start but appreciates drop back to 1200m so keep safe if he gets a start. 12

14 CIZEN LUCKY ** Has been running on well late without a result. Worth thought. 20

Race 2

Nothing jumps off the page in this Restricted Maiden so two horses that had excuses not to finish closer last start and look due in LIM’S DREAMWALKER and STRONG N SMART should go close. Not much separates the pair and both have drawn well so the market may be the best guide. Of the other raced brigade that can win, BRUCE ALNAUGHTY and FRIDAY both come off poor runs but have trialled well enough to consider first-up, while CON SPERANZA placed at long odds on debut so worth some thought. Of the debutantes, BOY ZANDA and ELLIOT NESS come off good enough trials to win on debut and SIMLONG BEACH gets weight relief so can be included in exotics. Betting Strategy – LIM’S DREAMWALKER win.

1 LIM’S DREAMWALKER *** Excuses not to finish closer last start and is due and worth thought at first start on the Poly on trial form. 4.00

2 STRONG N SMART *** Also had excuses not to finish closer last start and work late suggest plenty more to offer. Follow. 5.00

3 FIGHTING HERO ** Solid to the wire without being a threat when placing last start and should figure. 12

4 EIGHT BALL ** Did it tough from wide gate last start so improves from gate 1 with blinkers back on for good measure. 12

5 MARCUS ANTONIUS * Back in trip and tongue-tie off and like to see support before considering. 33

6 BOY XANDER *** NZ-bred 3YO who has looked good at two local trials and can win with gate 3 a bonus. 5.00

7 BRUCE ALNAUGHTY *** Resuming after a poor run but has trialled well since and can consider on debut run. 20

8 CON SPERANZA *** Defied his odds (and trial form) to place on debut and have to respect on that effort. 12

9 ELLIOT NESS *** Australian-bred 3YO who has shown more than enough at the trials to win on debut. 6.00

10 FRIDAY *** Resuming. Wide gate will test but recent trials suggests the Poly will suit and market watch advised. 20

11 GOLDEN EIGHTYEIGHT ** Didn’t need the wide gate but has looked solid at the trials so can include in exotics. 20

12 SIMLONG BEACH ** American-bred 3YO filly whose most recent trial was her best and market best guide with no weight. 20

13 KANTHAKA * Not a mile away last start but this is tougher. 33

14 BAD BOY BLACK * Has speed but hit a wall last start over 1100m so is a risk. 33

Race 3

With a handy newcomer from Australia making his Singapore debut, the market will be a very good guide in this Class 4 Poly dash. The newcomer in question is SUN OPS who arrived with a race record of two wins (both Newcastle) from nine career starts but his local trials have impressed and he only needs to bring that form to the races to win at his Singapore debut. Of those we know, SKY EYE is a handy type and while he has found it hard to win, he is always competitive and looks the benchmark, while ARION PASSION (late River Roca) showed last start that this Company holds no fears and he has to be respected. One to watch is the Class dropper in CHOCANTE who gets blinkers added in the right race and Hakim and his claim won’t hurt his chances. Go wider in exotics. Betting Strategy – SUN OPS win, saver on CHOCANTE.

1 CHOCANTE *** Drops back to winning grade, gets blinkers and Hakim so can win. 8.00

2 HARBOUR APPROACH ** Resuming after some moderate form but recent trials solid enough to think he improves. 20

3 SUN OPS *** Former Australian who won two from nine starts but local trials easily good enough to think he can in at Singapore debut. 3.00

4 IT’S GOT IT ALL ** Tough to follow and first beaten last start but has speed and claim helps. 20

5 COUSTEAU ** Solid without being a threat last start but gate 1 and blinkers help so keep safe. 20

6 SALVADOR ** Resuming after long lay-off but honest, recent trials good so watch market. 8.00

7 CHEVAL ROUGE ** Resuming. Always some show in race like this and recent trial good but has had issues so take on trust. 12

8 CALCULATION * Lost form. 50

9 SKY EYE *** A long way off a good winner last start but always competitive and should have a say here. 4.00

10 HAPPY SATURDAY ** Never a threat last start and drawn wide but always some show on the Poly. 20

11 ARION PASSION *** Late River Roca. Did it tough and in the mix with support this Company last start so pay to follow. 8.00

12 EASTIGER * Drawn wide and better on the turf. 33

13 FROM THE NAVY * Honest enough but Class 5 looks his caper. 33

14 HYDE PARK * Took a drop to Class 5 to win and tested here. 33

Race 4

While we can make a winning case for three or four runners, including a debutante 3YO filly in HARRY DREAM, the punters will either make WAWASAN or OUR SECRET WEAPON favourite and it may be a race in two. WAWASAN had everything covered on his debut but the handy winner and while drawn wide for this, he should go forward and be right in the finish. OUR SECRET WEAPON can disappoint but was in the winning mix last start over this trip in Class 5 and that form should hold up in this field with Hakim retaining the ride. HAPPY FRIDAY is the other of the raced brigade that can win on best form, although ALEXANDER and MONDAY are better than what the showed last start. HARRY DREAM looks the best of the newcomers on trial form but OUR LADY BOSS and UNBRIDLED SWEEP are worth thought. Betting Strategy – forecast OUR SECRET BOSS and WAWASAN.

1 HAPPY FRIDAY *** Bad start costly last start but due prior and can win with a positive ride. 12

2 EL MACHO * Went close two back but usually disappoints and this trip is too short. 20

3 ASSASSIN ** Disappointing last start but has pace and could run a cheeky race from gate 2. 33

4 WAWASAN *** No match for winner on debut but had everything else covered and hard to beat. 3.00

5 UNBRIDLED SWEEP ** American-bred 5YO mare making race debut. Has had the odd issue at the trials but showed enough to consider with market best guide. 12

6 TAKE A CHANCE * Shown glimpses and gate 1 helps but hard to have on recent form with blinkers to visor. 33

7 OUR SECRET WEAPON *** In the mix in Class 5 this trip last start and looks ready to win. 3.00

8 SPEARHEAD * Placed in a couple of weak ones of late but easier to ignore. 20

9 ALEXANDER ** Only battled on debut but should improve for the run with tongue-tie added. 33

10 MONDAY ** Resuming after two runs over 1400m on turf. Trials suggest he can have a say here. 12

11 HARRY DREAM *** NZ-bred 3YO filly who has looked comfortable at the trials and worth thought with no weight. 10

12 OUR LADY BOSS ** Australian-bred 3YO whose most recent trial solid enough to watch market on debut. 12

13 WEDNESDAY * Not for me. 50

Race 5

A wide-open Class 5 and some horses that look hopelessly out of form can improve lengths and win, so the market will be a good guide. BARBEQUE is one such horse but given he drops significantly in Class, gets headgear added and benefits from a Hakim claim, he goes close. OL MATE BUZZER is another that hasn’t gone a yard of late but he was never involved when dropping to Class 5 last start and he wins race like this on best form with 1100m in his favour. TRY MAK MAK also drops to his winning Class so improves as his form in Class 4 was better than it reads. Plenty more win without surprising so include WINNING LEGEND, STAR BULLET, WELL DESERVED and MINHAAJ and go wider again in exotics. Betting Strategy – BARBEQUE win.

1 BARBEQUE *** Form reads badly but significant drop in Class and gets blinkers added with top claimer. Watch market. 5.00

2 TRY MAK MAK *** Form better than it reads and drops to recent winning Class. Big show. 5.00

3 WINNING LEGEND *** Disappointing last start (jockey suggested restricted room not ideal) but due prior and have to respect. 8.00

4 OL MATE BUZZER *** Slowly away and never involved last dropping to Class 5 but 1100m suits and pay to keep safe. 33

5 SUPER GREAT ** Wide gate will test but showed last start what he is capable of. 20

6 BIG DAY ** Ran on well last start to place and looks to have more to offer with gate 3 a bonus. 12

7 BROADWAY SUCCESS ** Form reads badly but Poly in Class 5 suits and gets blinkers/pacifiers. Improves. 12

8 PLUCKY LAD * Worked home OK last start so worth thought on best form. 20

9 STAR BULLET *** Always a show on the Poly and gate 2 helps. 5.00

10 WELL DESERVED *** Has been disappointing with support but gets gate 1 and worth thought from gate 1. 6.00

11 MINHAAJ *** Disappointing last start but was due prior and will look the winner at some stage sans tongue-tie. 12

12 MY HORSE * Battling but recent trial OK and gets a visor so could improve. 33

13 PAPERBACK TROOPER ** Gate will test and nothing last start but in the mix as a rule in races like this. 20

14 UNCLE LUCKY ** Disappointing last start but gets blinkers added so worth one more look. 20

Race 6

Selections; 3 ASAAD – 4 AXEL – 2 LEATHERHEAD – 1 EAGLE EYE

With a few of the fancies drawn a ‘tad sticky’, the run into the first bend and a bit of luck will be factors in finding the winner. ASAAD has drawn awkwardly in gate 9 but he should go forward under Danny Beasley and if he can find the lead or thereabouts, he will be hard to run down. MANDRAKE has also drawn to disadvantage (14) and is having his first start on the Poly but he is in form and must be respected with Simon Kok up. LEATHERHEAD, AXEL and EAGLE EYE have drawn gates 2, 5 and 6 respectively and all looked well placed in this Company to have a big say, while HARD TOO THINK is in good enough form to keep safe at hopefully value at his first start on the Poly. The rest may struggle but MATSURIBAYASHI and LEGEND ROCKS could show up in exotics. Betting Strategy – EAGLE EYE value.

1 EAGLE EYE *** Can disappoint but significant drop in Class and can win on the Poly with handy 4kg claim. 8.00

2 LEATHERHEAD *** Did it tough last start in similar affair when battling late but can consider from gate 2. 5.00

3 ASAAD *** Ran down late last start in similar affair but in fine form and will look the winner at some stage. 3.00

4 AXEL *** Doesn’t win out of turn but appreciates Class 4 Company and handles the Poly so keep safe on the back of a solid trial sans visor. 6.00

5 MANDRAKE *** Gate a concern and having first start on the Poly but in form and should figure with luck in running. 8.00

6 CARIBBEAN LADY * Battling and wide gate will test. 33

7 HARD TOO THINK *** Having first race start on the Poly but in form and looked to have plenty in hand at recent trial so can consider. 8.00

8 MY EVEREST * OK two back but battled again last start and may need easier. 33

9 FORESTO * Lost form. 50

10 LEGEND ROCKS ** Up in grade after winning this trip in Class 5 but should be competitive. 20

11 MURRAYFIELD * No. 100

12 MATSURIBAYASHI ** Placed two back in similar affair and always some show. 12

13 BOY NEXT DOOR * Trip suits and gets blinkers but lost form. 50

14 NINETEEN GALE * Reassess in Class 5. 33

Race 7

A horrible race to open the ‘quaddie’ or ‘jackpot’ so a market watch is the order of the day to see if any of those out of form horses can improve on stable support. But as it stands a few horses are in honest enough form to think they can win this and none more so than the versatile HIGH LIMIT. The 6YO has placed at his last four starts and the services of the in-form Beuzelin should see a result with gate 4 a bonus. DUSSELDORF had a crack at 2000m last start and a freshen up back to 1200m looks a good move on some recent form and expect a big run with any luck from the wide gate. John O’Hara has two runners – HIGH VOLTAGE and RED ROAR – and both are in form and have a big say in this. Market best guide on the rest. Betting Strategy – DUSSELDORF each-way.

1 SMOKE AND MIRRORS ** Lost form but may improve on the Poly with Hakim. Watch market. 20

2 BRIGHT SUN ** Slight query the trip but in good enough form to have a say here. 8.00

3 DUSSELDORF *** Freshened after a crack at 2000m. Has form this trip and track and can overcome wide gate and win. 8.00

4 HIGH VOLTAGE *** Has been running on well, placed last start in similar affair and expect much the same. 8.00

5 RUNFINNRUN ** Resuming after a bad run of form but recent trial was good and could improve sans blinkers. 12

6 HIGH LIMIT *** In very honest form, versatile and gets his chance here. 3.00

7 HOST THE NATION ** Veteran who still has enough in the tank to keep them honest with gate 1 in his favour. 12

8 ENDLESS ** Late Middle Kingdom. Honest enough but yet to win in Singapore and needs longer. 12

9 RED ROAR *** Slight query the trip but in better form than most and can win. 8.00

10 RAPID FIRE ** Can disappoint but race suits and could give a sight. 12

11 SPEED RACER ** Maiden who battles as a rule but can include in exotics at value. 20

12 MY MIRACLE * Blinkers to visor and tongue-tie off but batting. 50

13 BURGUNDY LAD * May appreciate Class 5 but looks a battler at best. 50

14 FIGHT TO VICTORY *** Has been found wanting of late but will give a sight in this field. 20

Race 8

It’s fraught with danger to make a Class 5 conveyance a ‘good thing’ but LADY FAST really should win this race. The 4YO mare has some good recent Class 4 form to her name and given the drop in Class, a Hakim 3kg claim and the field she meets today, she is the one to beat. But Class 5 races through two turns are never that easy and a maiden in FORT MUSTANG looks due and from gate 4 with Beuzelin to steer, a very forward run is expected. SLIKARDO also looks due and gate 1 helps, ETWAS NEUES is in honest form and should figure, while PLATO had excuses last start (lame) and could win on form prior. Betting Strategy – LADY FAST win.

1 LADY FAST *** Significant drop in Class given good form this trip and has a Poly placing to her name so hard to beat with Hakim claim. 3.00

2 PLATO *** Excuses last start (lame) and can win on what he showed at start prior. 12

3 AWESOME CONQUEROR ** Excuses last start when just battling but can consider on some solid form prior – albeit on the turf. 20

4 CENTURION ** Had some support and OK late last start over 1800m and expect much the same here. 12

5 CIZEN BOSS ** Ran on super late with excuses not to finish closer over the mile last start on turf. Respect. 12

6 ETWAS NEUES *** Kept the winner honest last start in similar affair and gate 3 helps. 8.00

7 THE WILD PRINCE * Blinkers to visor but shown nothing after winning a weak maiden over 1100m three back. 33

8 FORT MUSTANG *** Maiden who is in form and will look the winner at some stage late. 4.00

9 LITTLE MASTER ** Some hope on best form and gate 2 helps but very disappointing at his last couple so keep safe. 12

10 SILKARDO *** In form, drawn the ace and should figure heavily in this finish. 8.00

11 SPEEDY ROSE * Maiden who has been running on but big query on the Poly. 33

12 FLASH THE FLAG * Maiden and easier to ignore. 100

13 GRAVEL ROAD ** Appreciates first up run and can improve so keep safe. 20

14 APOLLO ROCK * No. 100

Race 9

This Class 3 sprint may be a race in two as far as punters are concerned with SUPER INVINCIBLE and CELAVI the two to watch. SUPER INVINCIBLE probably ticks more boxes given his excellent form with Lee Freedman and no reason to think he won’t go very well for Mark Walker with Hakim and his 3kg claim a bonus on the back of a quiet trial. CELAVI is first up after nearly a year off the track but he was obviously in very good form winning back-to-back Class 4 Poly races and his recent trials good enough to give this a big shake. The race lacks depth but QUADCOPTER could have a say if he gets away clean and LIM’S PASSION will be working home strongly. PATTAYA is up in Class but doesn’t know how to run a bad race, while DARC BOUNTY, CHEVAL RAPIDE and the two emergency runners can be included in exotics. Betting Strategy – SUPER INVINCIBLE win.

1 QUADCOPTER ** Starts often costly and should need longer but handles the Poly and could surprise on the back of a good trial. 12

2 SUPER INVINCIBLE *** Lost no friends when in the mix after tough run in better Company. Very hard to beat from gate 1 with Hakim up and tongue-tie on. 2.00

3 DARC BOUNTY ** Disappointing last start but race does suit and gets his chance from gate 2. 12

4 CELAVI *** Resuming with tongue-tie added after back-to-back Class 4 Poly wins last March. Trialling very well so worth serious thought. 5.00

5 CHEVAL RAPIDE ** Late Yulong Fast Steed. Loves the Poly but gate makes this tough. 12

6 LIM’S PASSION ** Freshened, honest and will work home strongly. 12

7 SURGE * Got the chocolates in busy go last start but that was Class 4 and will find this too tough. 33

8 PATTAYA ** Up in Class but turned some excellent form into a win last start and pay to follow. 8.00

9 RED ROVER * Will improve with blinkers but easier to leave out. 50

10 SO YOU TOO * Blinkers (left side) off and recent trial good but hard to have on recent form. 50

11 WATER ROCKET * Will appreciate being back on the Poly but tested this Company. 33

12 IMPLEMENT * In good form but needs longer to show his best. 33

13 NATIONALITY ** Usually runs on strongly and can consider on the back of a good trial. 12

14 MOONGATE LIGHT ** Resuming and gate will test but always a show on the Poly in this Company. 20

Race 10

Favourite punters hopefully have a good kitty to play with in the last, as SURE WILL DO looks hard to beat with plenty of money likely on his back. The 4YO NZ-bred gelding was impressive winning his first two career starts before losing no friends when making the running and being beat late in the driving rain at start three. He is having his first start on the Poly but trials well enough to think that is not an issue and gate 1 helps his cause. BRIGHT ALMIGHTY doesn’t win out of turn but is honest and looks well placed over 1000m with Lerner up and LIM’S KNIGHT will improve lengths back on the Poly after a first-up run on the turf and he has to be respected. The interesting runner is Hong Kong raced TANGIBLE who has trailed well enough to keep an eye on the market with MAN OF MYSTERY and the first emergency – KASSAB – both in contention. Betting Strategy – SURE WILL DO strong win.

1 BRIGHT ALMIGHTY *** Honest and only win in Singapore was this trip and track. Can win. 7.00

2 LIM’S KNIGHT *** Appreciates first up run on the turf and will grow a leg back on the Poly. Goes close from gate 2. 8.00

3 MAN OF MYSTERY *** Never involved from wide gate last start but made ground late. Can seriously consider from gate 3. 20

4 LONHRO GOLD ** Wide gate a concern but has plenty of toe and could surprise if ridden positively. 12

5 SURE WILL DO *** Not disgraced when beaten late in driving rain and hard to beat at first start on the Poly on trial form. 2.00

6 TANGIBLE *** Former Hong Kong 6YO bred in South Africa who has trialled well enough locally to keep safe with market best guide. 12

7 CALIFORNIA ** Another speedster drawn wide but will give a sight with any luck early. 12

8 GOOD LUCK CHARM ** Did it tough last start and can consider in exotics although may need easier to win. 20

9 ATLAS ** Too honest to leave out completely but back in trip and may find these too slick. 20

10 HEALTHY STAR ** Could have finished closer last start and race suits but wide gate will test. 20

11 LATENT POWER ** Broke maiden status in Class 5 but could be competitive with Hakim retaining the ride. 20

12 SUPER SIX * Competitive on his day but might be looking for something easier. 50

13 KASSAB *** Won maiden at first start in Singapore after racing in the UK. This is tougher but ran well enough to keep safe. 8.00

14 DECRETO * Turned some good Class 5 form into a win but that grade looks his caper.
