Sha Tin Monday race-by-race

ZAC PURTON

Luke Middlebrook’s race-by-race analysis of the meeting to be run at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong on Monday.

Race 1: Pleasant Endeavor recent barrier trial was excellent, suggesting a good run can be expected in a very moderate race. Drawn well in barrier No 4 and should take beating from there. Won Ball change of trainer recently and watch betting. Recent runs have been okay and now Purton rides. Monster Kaka big jockey change with Moreira in the saddle and expect improvement. Dazzling Feeling blinkers added first time and should be considered after an improved last-start effort. Thunderstrike well prepared for debut and is worth considering.

Race 2: Glorious Dragon changed stables recently and has improved and has a good turn-of-foot which should see him hard to hold out here. Time Warp dangerous frontrunner who can be hard to catch and is well-placed in this grade. Butterfield well supported last start and won accordingly, drawing away. Will map to get his chance to score again. Helene Leadingstar big jockey change from last start with Moreira taking the ride and looks a big chance to improve on recent runs. Columbus County has shown ability and gets his chance to win here.

Race 3: Waikuku looks the one to beat based on current form after an impressive G1 victory last start, but the small field of six will make it a highly-tactical affair. Ka Ying Star last start winner who retains good form and can run well again with the small field to suit in pattern. More Than This good performance when storming home for a nice second last start but won’t want to stand too much ground here. Southern Legend old-timer who is racing in good form and is a winning chance. Champion’s Way looks a solid good chance based on last start but he mixes his form.

Race 4: Trader newcomer who looks talented and must be rated a big chance to score first-up with Purton and Hayes combining. Beauty Cheers recent barrier trial was impressive, suggesting a good run can be expected. Lucky Quality looks ready to run a big race in Class 4 and start following. Party Genius has early speed and can always surprise with the right run. Honest Way looks a chance if you go on previous consistent form and he is right in this with apprentice Jerry Chau in the saddle.

Race 5: Killer Bee impressive debut winner over 1000m who is a big winning chance despite the rise in class and distance, should be hard to beat again. Regency Bo Bo well-placed and looks a chance in race like this as it is a much easier contest than recent starts. Decisive Twelve rising in class and meets better quality horses but can measure up from the low barrier. Noble Steed drawn well and should gain a nice run in transit and is capable of improving here. Tornado Twist not out of it and may be able to sneak for a place chance.

Race 6: Super Winner was an easy last start winner and must be respected to reproduce that effort and go all the way from barrier No 1 under Moreira. Gracylove looks a solid good chance based on last start, backs up quickly with Purton in the saddle and can go close. Super Red Dragon racing well with excellent sectional time rankings and look for him to be finishing strong late. Sunny Baby recent runs have been encouraging and can run well. Champion Pride video replay showed last run unlucky, look for improvement here.

Race 7: Vukan racing consistently of late and expect another big run and he should be suited up in trip. Maldives a bit erratic and hard to follow but has ability and can surprise. El Jefe generally gets back in the running but dashes strongly home and he’s knocking on the door for another win. Leading Fortune looks a chance if you go on previous consistent form and he can improve sharply here under Purton. Toycoon ran the third fastest sectional time last start and consider here with the apprentice Chau on from barrier No 1.

Race 8: Hurry Hurry Gain rising in class after a big Class 4 win, meets better quality horses but can measure up after holding good form with an impressive barrier trial. Sky Show looks a solid good chance based on last start and the new stable (Caspar Fownes) has him going well. Ka Ying Master a fast beginner who can run well if he finds an easy lead and keep safe here. Storm Warnings showed good speed to lead last start and gave a good sight and will likely do the same here. Team Power resuming from a break and recent trial was okay.

Race 9: Wellington highly promising sprinter who shows nice ability and looks the one to beat after a big win last start. Should be able to continue his winning ways here. Sky Field good performance when storming home for third place last start and is asserting himself another top-class sprinter as time goes by. Computer Patch showed good speed to lead last start and gave a good sight and will likely do the same here and play a part in the finish. Beauty Applause ran the fourth fastest sectional time last start and looks a place chance. Winning Dreamer goes well 2nd up from a break.

Race 10: Kasi Farasi recent runs have been encouraging and he looks to have found a winnable race this week drawn well in barrier No 2 for Purton and Yip. Perfect To Great fresh up from a break and should run well after turning in two good fourth place finishes recently. Winning For All drops down in grade and start following, should be an improver here after recent sound efforts in Class 2 without showing much interest. All For South faded late last start, chance to improve under right race shape. Private Rocket video replay showed last run was very good.
