Class drop suits Healthy Star

Class drop suits Healthy Star

Larry Foley: After a run of meetings that featured some well-received Group races, Saturday’s card from Singapore looks a tad mundane with Class 5 races dominating the day.

But the Class 5 fields have been good of late, and the form has certainly held up enough to be confident of a good showing from the expected fancies.

Case in point – hopefully – is the enigmatic HEALTHY STAR who gets his chance to get back into the winners’ circle in Race 6.

The James Peter-trained four-year-old has been disappointing given his exceptional trial form but a drop to Class 5 on the back of another smart trial suggests he is cherry-ripe to show his best, which should be good enough to win over a very suitable 1100m.

A maiden in REIGNITE should also be hard to beat in Race 2. The three-year-old was very disappointing last start on the turf with heavy support but the post-race review from connections suggests the Polytrack is his preferred surface, and he gets his chance in what looks a field with little depth.

The quartet of Class 4 races on the 11-race card are all good punting races and given the support likely for both MELLAD and MYSTERY MAN in Race 3, a horse like COUSTEAU could be a very good each-way option.

The six-year-old is due to knock in a win given the very honest form he is in and the drop to 1000m looks ideal to get a result with gate No 1 a bonus.

Race 6 Healthy Win

Race 3 Cousteau

Race 5 Sand Box

Race 8: 1, 3, 7, 8

Race 9: 2, 3, 5, 12

Race 10: 1, 2, 3

Race 11: 2, 3, 4, 5

Race 1

A solid Class 5 to open the meeting and while the tote will give us a good guide on some of the Class droppers, LIM’S PRIDE did enough when blinkers went on last start to follow here. The 6YO had support on that occasion and from gate 6 with Beasley retaining the ride, he can win this. Nothing separates the likes of FAST AND FEARLESS, THE BROTHERHOOD and ANPANMAN on recent form in similar affairs to this and pick themselves. SUPER SPEED and NORTHERN SUN are the two recent Class droppers who have a say on best Class 5 form with SUPER SPEED the best option from gate 3. Keep the maiden UNBRIDLED SWEEP safe as he had excuses last start and can figure. Betting Strategy – SUPER SPEED each-way.

1 EASTIGER ** Prefer on the turf but excuses (respiratory) last start and always a show in Class 5. 12

2 DESPACITO * Gets blinkers but lost form. 33

3 NORTHERN SUN *** Excuses (missed start) last time out and can consider on best Poly form. 12

4 SUN RECTITUDE ** A better winning option on the turf and drawn wide but should be more than competitive. 20

5 UNBRIDLED SWEEP *** Maiden who blew the start and his chances last start but will appreciate the Poly. Watch. 12

6 FAST AND FEARLESS *** In form, recent win on the Poly and looks the benchmark with gate 2 a bonus. 5.00

7 THE BROTHERHOOD *** Found form in Class 5 and wins one of these sooner than later. 5.00

8 FIRE AWAY ** Impossible on form but drops back to Class 5, gate 1 helps and could be the improver at odds. 33

9 LIM’S PRIDE *** Supported and not far away in a similar affair last start when blinkers added and pay to follow. 4.00

10 SUPER SPEED *** Battling of late but drops to Class 5 and looks a big chance with gate 3 a factor. 12

11 ANPANMAN *** Gate a concern but dead-heated last start, handles the Poly and must be respected. 7.00

12 FIGHT TO VICTORY * Resuming on the back of a good trial but can be found wanting late so take on trust. 20

13 NINETEEN STAR * Maiden who appreciates first up run but needs to show more. 50

Race 2

A terrible race and while favourite punters were burnt by REIGNITE last start, he looks the only option here and he should be hard to beat. And we could forgive that last start on the turf as the trainer suggested post-race that the Poly looks his caper so gets his chance in this weak field with heavy support likely. In his favour is the fact two of the others chances also come off poor runs but DON’T TELL TILLY had excuses (respiratory) and goes close on best form and MR BIG BROTHER bled last start and can overcome the wide gate and have a say. If the second emergency – TIGER LEAP – gets a start it will pay to keep him very safe, while BIG TIGER, LIM’S HOPEFULLY and SUPERIOR COAT could all improve at odds. REIGNITE win.

1 SWEET TAPIT * Gate helps but needs to show more. 33

2 REIGNITE *** Disappointing last start but trainer suggested the Poly is his caper and worth another look on the all-weather. 2.00

3 DON’T TELL TILLY *** Excuses (respiratory) for poor run last start and this race is weak enough to have a say. 3.00

4 MR BIG BROTHER *** Resuming after bleeding attack. Late Mr Fat Kiddy. Has pace and some hope if right. 5.00

5 BIG TIGER ** Excuses not to finish closer last start in Novice Company and may improve on the Poly. Watch market. 20

6 LIM’S HOPEFULLY ** Form poor but appreciates first up run and could improve on the back of a good trial. 20

7 BEN WADE * Improved effort last start but didn’t need the wide gate. 33

8 LADY ROXANNE * Has speed but should be found out late. 33

9 SUPERIOR COAT ** Resuming. Impossible on exposed form but recent trials suggests improvement. 33

10 RUMBLE * No. 100

11 LUCKY RED * Lost form. 50

12 SMASH * Hard to have. 50

13 CITY GATE * Did it tough last start but wide gate will test here. 50

14 TIGER LEAP *** Like to see over longer but better form than most here so keep safe. 8.00

Race 3

A very interesting Class 4 Poly dash and with some speed drawn wide, the run into the tight first bend will be telling. MELLAD has gate 10 to contend with but showed plenty of dash on debut before fading to miss place as the odds-on elect. Obviously the run would have improved his fitness and he may even start favourite again and have a big say. MAN OF MYSTERY will also get plenty of support and while disappointing last start, he gets Duric back on and blinkers and should go very close. The proverbial blanket goes over the likes of VULCAN, SNIP and COUSTEAU with the latter getting the nod back over his pet trip with gate 1 a factor. Add WHIZZ FIZZ into novelties at odds, as his recent turf run was solid and can improve again on the Poly. Betting Strategy – COUSTEAU each-way.

1 SURGE *** Improved effort dropping to Class 4 last start and 1000m looks ideal. Can win. 12

2 MAN OF MYSTERY *** Backing up after disappointing effort last start but wins on form prior with blinkers added. 4.00

3 SNIP *** Another who was due before a battling run last start. Keep safe. 12

4 VULCAN *** Finding it hard to win but is due, blinkers should help and right in this. 6.00

5 COUSTEAU *** In form, 1000m is ideal and gets his chance with gate 1 a factor. 8.00

6 THUNDER * Battled last start on the Poly and happy to wait for next turf run. 33

7 MELLAD *** Used some petrol to lead at Singapore debut when fading as the odds-on pop. Will benefit from the run and give a sight. 3.00

8 WHIZ FIZZ *** Gate a concern but not a mile away last start on turf and trial prior good enough to consider on the poly. 20

9 FIRST CHIEF ** Raced on the pace last start and looked the winner at stages over 1200m. Keep safe. 15

10 LIM’S UNIQUE ** Resuming sans blinkers after a couple of runs over the mile. Could go OK fresh with market watch advised. 20

11 SUN STEP * Nuisance value only. 50

12 SUPER RAY * Will be running on at odds but like to see in Class 5. 33

Race 4

Hideyuki Takaoka trained his 500th winner last weekend and it’s safe to say a big percentage of those winners were in races like this. Well, better races than this one in particular but the Japanese-handler loves two bends on the Poly and his three runners here – SUN PITTSBURGH, WIND RHAPSODY and ANGEL HALO – can all win. Not much separates the trio but ANGELO HALO back on the Poly probably gets the nod but the maiden WIND RHAPSODY should go very close. GINGERMAN may upset the Takaoka applecart. The 6YO certainly doesn’t win out of turn but this race suits, he is in very honest form and gets his chance with Hakim a factor. Betting Strategy – GINGERMAN win.

1 SUN PITTSBURGH *** Ran on well last start when not far away expect mush the same. 7.00

2 WIND RHAPSODY *** Maiden who looks ready to win and should figure with Chavez from gate 6. 4.00

3 NADEEM SAPPHIRE * Blinkers to winkers but battling since bleeding attack. 50

4 SAYONARA ** Runs on when in the mood and race suits so can include in exotics. 12

5 STORM TO WIN ** Query on the Poly but battled from wide gate last start so could improve from better alley with blinkers to winkers. 12

6 ACCUMULATION ** Tough to follow and drawn wide but excuses last start and could play a part with blinkers added. 12

7 QIJI STAR * Usually disappoints and drawn wide but Poly mile may suit. 33

8 ANGEL HALO *** Battled on the turf last start but under consideration on Poly form prior. 4.00

9 MINGS MAN * Battling of late and turf over 1400m his caper. 33

10 SPIRIT OF D’WIND ** Maiden who needs to improve but could run a cheeky run at odds from gate 1. 20

11 QINGDAO * No. 50

12 GINGERMAN *** Honest, gets Hakim and always worth a look in this type of race. 4.00

13 MILITARY CHAIRMAN ** Prefer on the turf but could have a say in this weak field. 12

Race 5

A dead-set raffle awaits punters in this Restricted Maiden and with so many newcomers with good trial form to their respective names, the tote will be out best friend. Two raced newcomers in GREATHAM GIRL and HERO come under serious notice. Both arrived with one placing to their names and both have shown enough at the local trials to win on their Singapore debut. Of the two, GREATHAM GIRL gets the favours from gate 6 but again, the tote will be a good guide. Some handy 2YO’s with no weight also come under notice with RENZO placing on his debut at odds and the stablemate – SANDBOX – having excuses in that same race. Add ILLUSTRIOUS and DRAGON SANDS – just to name two – into the winning mix on local race form and go wide in exotics. Betting Strategy -SANDBOX each-way.

1 HERO *** Former Australian who placed once from three starts before arrival. Local trials good enough to win. 5.00

2 ILLUSTRIOUS *** In the wining mix last start and pay to follow. 5.00

3 EIGHT BALL ** Found form on the Poly but remains a query on the turf so take on trust. 12

4 MASTER PLAYER ** NZ-bred 3YO who has looked comfortable at the trials but gate could test. Watch market. 20

5 SUGAR RUSH * Race form poor. 100

6 GREATHAM GIRL *** Former Australian filly who placed at her only start (bush) before arriving. Trials good enough to win at Singapore debut. 5.00

7 LIM’S DENALI ** Found form in weak Poly maidens and have to take on trust with headgear off from wide alley on the turf. 12

8 DRAGON SANDS *** Appreciates solid first up run and could have a say in this field with Hakim up. 8.00

9 NO MORE DELAY ** Australian-bred 2YO who has looked comfortable at the trials and worth thought with no weight. 20

10 RENZO *** Placed on debut in similar affair and should improve with experience. Can win. 6.00

11 SAND BOX *** Excuses before running on late on debut and happy to follow. 12

12 SUPER EXTREME ** Australian-bred 2YO who has been solid at the trials and could add value to exotics with no weight. 20

13 NOMVULA ** Resuming after poor debut but could improve at long odds with blinkers on. 50

Race 6

We have been burnt many a time by HEALTHY STAR but a drop in Class on the back of a very nice trial sends us to that particular well one last time. The 4YO has had his issues but there is no doubting his ability – especially on the Poly over this type of trip – and a recent strong trial has him the one to beat. In saying that, GOLDEN WIN backed up his good trial with a bold effort to be in the mix last start and happy to follow with two Class droppers in SUPER GREAT and SUPER POWER both winning hopes in their right grade. HELLO MICHELLE won a weaker race than this last start but was impressive so has to be respected. Betting Strategy – HEALTHY STAR strong win.

1 HEALTHY STAR *** Form reads terribly but recent trial strong, drops to Class 5 and should win. 3.00

2 SUPER GREAT *** Another who improves lengths back in recent winning grade with blinkers back on a factor. 8.00

3 SUPER POWER *** Improved effort last start, drops in Class and can win. 8.00

4 ANYWAY ** Late Nineteen Gale. Placed last start over 1200m but should need longer. 20

5 DECRETO ** Disappointing when dropping to Class 5 last start and take on trust. 33

6 GOLDEN WIN *** Over-raced but almost won last start and trails like he wins with more comfortable transit. 3.00

7 HELLO MICHELLE *** This field is tougher than last start but won too well not to follow. 8.00

8 PAPERBACK TROOPER ** No threat but in place mix behind Hello Michelle last start. Exotics. 20

9 UNCLE LUCKY ** In solid form and can figure again. 15

10 RICH FORTUNE * Saddle slipped last start and could surprise at odds on the Poly. 50

11 MY MIRACLE * Battling. 50

12 VICTORY JOY * Recent trial OK but not on race form. 50

13 PER INCROWN ** Like to see over longer but showed last start why Class 5 is his caper so keep safe. 12

Race 7

Hard to get excited by this race but RED ROAR looks the safest bet given the 5YO is in very solid form with three placings to his name and this race is suitable to knock in a well deserved win. SPEED RACER is more of a risk given he was disappointing last start but he does get blinkers back on and was due so pay to keep safe. Add HIGH VOLTAGE into the mix as he has had support of late and has been honest enough to follow, while AMAZING MAN will appreciate being back on the Poly. Both emergencies will find this Company to their liking but STAR EFFECT is better on the turf. Betting Strategy – RED ROAR and SPEED RACER forecast.

1 INTREPID ** Like to see over longer but should work into exotic calculations. 8.00

2 LUCKY JINSHA ** Maiden who is honest as a rule and may appreciate blinkers. 12

3 RED ROAR *** In form, race suits and a very forward run expected. 4.00

4 HIGH VOLTAGE *** Has had support and been honest in similar races to this and should figure. 6.00

5 LIFE IS GAMBLE ** Disappointing last stat and wide gate could test. 12

6 AMAZING MAN *** Excuses (lame) last start and can consider on Poly form prior. 12

7 HOST THE NATION ** Veteran who is always some show and gate 1 helps. 12

8 SUMMER GLITTER ** Resuming after bleeding attack. Recent trial with winkers solid but take on trust. 33

9 WINNING POWER * Gets blinkers but battling. 33

10 GIANT KILLING ** Gate a concern but honest enough to include somewhere. 12

11 MAJESTY WARRIOR * Gets blinker/pacifiers but no. 50

12 SPEED RACER *** Maiden who was disappointing last start but gets blinkers back on and was due prior. Goes close. 4.00

13 STAR EFFECT ** Placed last start but prefer on the turf. 12

14 GAMELY *** Always some show in races like this and gets his chance in this weak field. 12

Race 8

Selections; 8 KASSAB – 3 BIONICS – 7 SKY EYE – 1 DOC HUDSON

Not much depth in this Class 4 and Michael Clements may have found the right race first-up for the well-bred KASSAB. By Exceed and Excel, KASSAB had three starts in the UK before arrival and showed he had settled into Singapore with a dominant Maiden win at his first Singapore outing before placing in this grade before spelling. With a recent trial under his belt and only 53.5kg, he might be too sharp for these. BIONICS has been a revelation at his past two outings winning a Class 5 and then a Class 4 over this trip by big margins; he is fresh after an eight week break but if in the same form, will be hard to run down. IMPERIUM is a solid performer and whilst better over longer, he will be hitting the line strongly. The wide gate didn’t help SKY EYE last start and while he hasn’t drawn well again, Simon Kok may make a difference. DOC HUDSON disappointed last start back in Class 4 but the gear change and Vlad Duric may help. Betting Strategy – KASSAB win.

1 DOC HUDSON ** Only battled at first outing since dropping in grade. Blinker pacifiers on as well as Duric. Can hit the line. 12

2 IMPERIUM ** Resuming after good trial. Might find these too sharp but can run on 10

3 BIONICS *** Resuming after 8 week break. Has suddenly found form bolting in at past two outings. Up in weight but will go forward and could win again. 4.00

4 HEADHUNTER ** Sat outside leader last start and faded late. Hasn’t won for a while but has the speed to be prominent. 8.00

5 LONHRO GOLD * Resuming. Trialled solidly but has had lameness issues and hasn’t won for a long time. Trip suits but prefer to see. 33

6 LIM’S ZOOM * Only battling. Needs to improve. 50

7 SKY EYE *** Racing well in this company and wasn’t helped by wide gate last start. With Simon Kok will be near the speed for a long way. 4.00

8 KASSAB *** Resuming. Well-bred type that might be better than this grade. Trip suit sand if ready should be too classy. 2.50

9 LIM’S KNIGHT * Needs to improve on recent efforts. 100

10 FIREWORKS * Has battled since Class 5 win. Best form on turf over longer. 100

11 HYDE PARK * Has speed but last win was in Class 5 and better suited there. 100

12 THOMAS DE LAGO * Tested on recent form. 100

Race 9

The usual battlers Class 5 and with some the best chances drawn wide, the best ride may win. STREET PARTY has been around the mark at recent outings and the booking of Vlad Duric is a positive; he has enough speed to go forward, find cover and be hard to hold out. CAVALLA COURT wasn’t far away when having his first start for eight weeks over this trip; he will be fitter now and from gate six with Iskandar claiming 3kg, he may be the one they have to run down. Oscar Chavez takes the mount on the Takaoka front-runner LEMON SQUASH and an aggressive ride can have him in the finish. SUN SPEAR is another that hasn’t been far away at recent outings; trained by Desmond Koh he has won twice previously at the trip and will get all the favours from gate 4 with Hakim’s claim a bonus. Include the Maiden ALMIGIR and ETWAS NEUES in exotics. Betting Strategy – play a few in exotics otherwise have a cup of tea

1 QIJI DIAMOND * Drop in grade helps after moderate Class 4 efforts. Only win was at 1200m. Has speed and can improve but take on trust at 1600m. 16

2 STREET PARTY *** Around the mark at recent outings. Has speed and should be prominent with Duric to ride. 4.00

3 LEMON SQUASH *** Run down late over 1800m last start and suffered same fate over 1600m at start prior. Poorly drawn but a good ride from Chavez could make the difference. 5.00

4 THE ARCHER * Has battled since Maiden win. Needs to improve. 33

5 CAVALLA COURT *** Wasn’t far away last start at first outing for 8 weeks. Will strip fitter and races best at this trip. Should be prominent. 4.00

6 ETWAS NEUES ** Has only battled at past two outings but previous form sound over 1700m. Draws to do no work with Marc Lerner. 10

7 PIT BULL * Distanced at all four outings. 100

8 ALLEGRO * Surprised two starts back but reverted to type last start. Better suited this trip but hard to follow. 20

9 KINGS SHIELD * Slow conveyance. 100

10 ALMUGIR ** Yet to win but has placed at three of eight starts. Can take advantage of gate one and not out of it. 8.00

11 TIGER FORCE * Distanced last start and hasn’t won for 71 weeks. 100

12 SUN SPEAR *** Has battled on solidly at past two outings. Claim helps, well drawn and has won twice at the trip. In with a chance, 5.00

13 SPORTSCASTER * Has disappointed at recent outings. Goes best when allowed to roll along. 33

14 MAXIMILIAN * Struggled last start but better suited this trip. Doesn’t win often but regularly places. 33

Race 10

Some of these have met in the recent past and the most likely is the Tim Fitzsimmons-trained, GOLD CITY. The 7YO was only run down late over 1800m last outing and with Vlad Duric staying on, he gets all the favours from gate 2 and will be hard to pass. There will be no shortage of speed with IRONCHAMP likely to lead and if all allowed to roll at his own tempo, he could be hard to run down. Most of the others don’t win out of turn, which brings the promising BILLY ELLIOT into play. He has shown promise at three outings and whilst taking on some gnarled warriors here, has youth on his side. The stablemate OUR PINNACLE can improve with Marc Lerner replacing an apprentice. Betting Strategy – GOLD CITY win.

1 GOLD CITY *** Run down late over 1800m here last start after wide trip. Gets all the favours with Duric from a good gate. Hard to beat. 3.00

2 IRONCHAMP *** Led and was run down by swoopers last start. Will give a sight for a long way. 4.00

3 OUR PINNACLE *** Only battled last start but finished off best to win over 1400m in this grade two starts back. Can improve with Marc Lerner replacing apprentice. 5.00

4 BUDDY BUDDY * Caught wide and faded late last start over 1800m in GOLD CITY race. Gate no help again. 14

5 SPECIAL OPS ** Disappointed over 1800m last start but better suited this trip. Will get a good run with Danny Beasley. 10

6 GLASGOW * Only battled last start. Has won twice at this trip but doesn’t win out of turn. Can run on. 20

7 YAYA PAPAYA * Hasn’t won for a long time and might need easier. 33

8 METAL WORLD * Not far away last start and has the speed to be prominent. 20

9 GOD’S GIFT * Only battled when resuming. Has won at this trip but prefer to see. 50

10 TERRIFIC * Ran on from well back to win Class 5 last start over this trip. Has trialled since but will find this harder. 33

11 ZYGARDE * Wasn’t disgraced in this class last start following class 5 win. Can take advantage of good gate. 25

12 BILLY ELLIOT ** Has shown promise in three outings. Poorly drawn and taking on seasoned ones here but has upside. Keep safe. 8.00

Race 11

Plenty of these have recent form in the grade, so a competitive race is likely. One with upside might be DR KARDO who showed promise as a young horse in Australia and has found his way to Singapore after a long injury lay off. Fitter now for three outings – which included a Maiden win – Oscar Chavez takes the mount and if the money go on, he is the one to follow. EXDREAM, UNIVERSAL EMPIRE and CHALAZA are all consistent performers at this level and have recent wins in similar Company and can all be included in multiples. One to watch is the filly, LADY SPRINTBOK, who resumed in Novice Company and showed speed before weakening late. A well-bred type by Written Tycoon, she showed promise when winning a Maiden last preparation and whilst the wide gate may test, Dan Meagher has given Danny Beasley the ride. Betting Strategy – DR KARDO win.

1 AFALONHRO ** Resuming without blinkers after a 39 week lay off. Form was sound in this class last prep and whilst better on turf will be running on. 12

2 EXDREAM *** Won one of these last start. Rises 2.5kg but meets a similar field and well drawn. Go well. 4.00

3 UNIVERSAL EMPIRE *** Led throughout this class and distance two starts back and battled on well after wide trip last outing at first start for seven weeks. Chavez to TH Koh a concern but has speed to be prominent. 4.50

4 CHALAZA *** Hampered at start and not far away last outing following win in similar class two starts back. Consistent in this grade and can be in the finish 4.50

5 DR KARDO *** Led before weakening in this class last outing. Has shown promise in short Singapore career and with Oscar Chavez will be prominent 4.00

6 MACEO * Lost all chance when slowly away last start. Led from wide gate to win this class at previous outing. Poorly drawn again but can give a sight with clean getaway. 20

7 MEGA GOLD * Resuming. Prefer to see. 100

8 BOOM SHAKALAKA * Hung on to win Class 5 over this trip last start. Claim helps but will find this harder. 33

9 LADY SPRINTBOK ** Showed speed when resuming in Novice company. Promising type with Beasley to ride but needs to overcome gate. 10

10 MR SHOWMAN * Never likely from wide gate last start. Better drawn here and can improve. 16

11 CIRCUIT STAR * Better in Class 5 100

12 PERFECT * Needs easier. 100

13 VALOROUS *** Hasn’t won for a long time but recent efforts promising in this grade. Good gate helps. 20
