Heavy rains force KZN racing changes

With Hollywoodbets Scottsville having received close on 100mm of rain, the prognosis for racing there on Wednesday is extremely poor and Gold Circle has made the decision to abandon this meeting.

Instead, the race meeting which was scheduled for the Polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Monday has now been postponed to Wednesday 25 May.

Close on 200mm of rain has fallen over the City track and there has been damage to the stable area and the jockey room which will need attention before racing can go ahead successfully and safely.

In fact, a staggering 351mm of rain was recorded at Virginia Airport in Durban over the last 24 hours, more than doubling the previous rainfall record in the city of 165mm of rain in April 2019.

A reminder to all stakeholders and fans that the race meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday 25 May at Greyville will go ahead as planned under lights on Friday night 27 May, with the Daily News 2000 race meeting set to take place as scheduled on Saturday 28 May on the turf at Greyville.

In summary, racing changes in Kwazulu-Natal this week are as follows:

Monday 23 May – no racing

Wednesday 25 May – Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack – postponed from today.

Friday Night 27 May – Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack – postponed from Wednesday 25 May as per previous release.

Saturday 28 May – Hollywoodbets Greyville Turf Track – the Daily News 2000 race meeting.
